Location and characteristics of El Cuco Beach
Nestled in the coastal area of El Salvador, in the department of San Miguel, you will find El Cuco Beach, right in the town of Chirilagua.
To get to this paradise of enjoyment and relaxation, we head southeast from the capital, San Salvador, and travel along the Pan-American Highway, only about 175 km from that point.
This unique beach is of volcanic origin, with fine sands, shades ranging from light gray to black, and sprinkled with different types of shells and other seashells.
Uninterruptedly bathed by the waves of the sea, this divine territory has an extension of 12 km, which invites us, without a doubt, to cross it from end to end.
What to do in El Cuco Beach
This fascinating beach offers visitors, tourists, and locals the possibility to spend their stay in two opposite activities, which is indeed one of its main attractions.
In El Cuco beach, you will find a place to disconnect and rest completely.
You can sunbathe lying on the sand, in soft hammocks, or under some coconut trees that abound in the place. You can also stroll along the coast, enjoying the maritime landscape, or have a snack in some of the typical and fresh locals of the beach.
On the other hand, if you are an action lover, you may want to play soccer, jogging, or volleyball, whichever you prefer. Or maybe you decide to enter the ocean waters to fish, swim or perhaps slide on the waves, practicing some extreme sport typical of this aquatic world.
As if that were not enough, during the day you can recreate at your leisure in the area, since the sunsets on the beach are movie-like and, at nightfall, you can have a good time by a campfire or live the experience of contemplating the sunrise, when the sun rises over the Salvadoran Pacific.
You can stay in the different hotels and inns located in El Cuco and its surroundings, or spend the night on the shore of the beach if you wish.
Surf and weather at El Cuco Beach
In El Cuco, you will find moderate swell waters, with typical speeds of 35 km and heights of one and a half meters, ideal for swimming, as well as taking the board and surfing at your leisure.
If we talk about the climate, you can count on one of the best on the entire Chirilaguense coast. It is usually calm, thanks to the winds at sea, which blow up to 12 km per hour. Meanwhile, the beach temperatures range between 27ºC and 36 ºC throughout the year.
The excellent weather in El Cuco is perfect most of the year. From January to April, as well as in November and December. However, there is a dry period, from the end of December to March, which typifies them as periods of good weather and perfect weather.
In this case, the months of January to September are at a medium level, as they are the most temperate.
The rains are observed only in May, September, and October.
Gastronomy at El Cuco Beach.
El Cuco beach offers gastronomic delicacies to satisfy all palates as a tourist resort. However, as expected, seafood products are the most requested by visitors.
Fish and seafood in all its forms and presentations are on the menu of the different restaurants and typical local establishments. Due to its characteristic preparation, the traditional salted fish is a true delight, placed on bamboo tables in the sun.
It would be a sin to say goodbye to this splendid beach without tasting the culinary jewel of the region: the ceviche de curious, made with a native clam and with a recipe that does not envy other preparations of great chefs worldwide fame and renown.
