We visited San Miguel in El Salvador and approached Las Flores beach, a beautiful coastal town, a paradise for surf lovers, and the ideal destination for those who enjoy nature to the fullest.
The swell of this beach is so porous that it allows both the most experienced surfers and beginners to execute their maneuvers and release adrenaline. And at the same time, the tranquility and peace offered by this cove, enclosed by large cliffs, make it an excellent destination for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle and stress of the city.

Location of Las Flores Beach
Location and characteristics
In the municipality of Chirilagua in the department of San Miguel, we find Las Flores beach, which we reach from the Carretera del Litoral that goes in an easterly direction and takes us to El Cuco beach, only 3 km from our destination to the west.
The natural conditions of its coast, between its variable waves, the semi-rocky soil, and its grayish sands of volcanic origin, make it known as “the wild east” and “the wild east of El Salvador.”
The palms and other tropical trees on this captivating beach help create a splendid setting with stunning views, which undoubtedly makes some visit to enjoy the scenery while resting and relaxing.
The entire coastline of Las Flores beach has a meandering style. It creates a sort of exclusive bays that can access by walking among the numerous rocks, always taking care not to step on any sharp ones, especially if you are bringing small children.
The hotel and restaurant offer is varied and of high quality; although they reach up to 3 stars, the truth is that the visitors’ evaluations are pretty positive.
Although it is a beach suitable for tourism, it is pretty quiet and with a bit of hustle and bustle. The different commercial establishments and hotels surrounding the area specialize in gastronomy and lodging, so if you want a change of atmosphere, in the city of San Miguel, about 90 miles from the beach, you can find bars and discos with a festive atmosphere and entertainment until dawn.
What to do at Las Flores Beach
Although Las Flores beach is a tourist destination that attracts mainly surfers from all over the world, it is also a place where you can enjoy other activities.
Indeed, it is one of the few beaches where you can camp, request permission from the tourist police, and walk for a while along its undulating coastline and medium length, contemplating the beautiful scenery offered by the surroundings and the fantastic sunset at dusk.
Also, you can take the opportunity to buy fresh fish and cook it right there, being a beach of fishing activity, where you can see the locals in and out of the shore in search of the catch of the day. And if you prefer to take a boat ride, these same boats take visitors to other secluded beaches observed in the vicinity of the Chirilaguense coastline.
Surf and weather at Las Flores beach
The waves at Las Flores beach in San Miguel have something to offer for everyone. The waves are low and calm in the winter months, from November to January, and there are hardly any waves for beginner surfers to learn. But in March and until the end of October, the waves can reach a maximum of 4 meters.
The weather is generally relatively calm most of the year, both because of the change of seasons and the strong winds that cause intense waves. However, the sun continues to shine as it does along the entire Salvadoran coast, so it is advisable to use sunscreen.
Gastronomy at Las Flores Beach
Unlike other beaches where the hotel infrastructure allows a wide gastronomic offer, in Las Flores, you can find primarily local dishes with seafood ingredients, mainly fish. In addition, the menus include beans, plantains, and fried eggs, among other preparations of the region, such as the famous pupusas revueltas, of course, with the taste and presentation of good quality.
Similarly, there are offers for more limited budgets that are in the hostels of the locals and that offer an experience closer to the daily life of the hosts.
