It is located about 45 km from the capital, San Salvador, in the Suchitoto municipality of the department of Cuscatlán, right in the Las Ánimas stream, from where the waters of its waterfall descend.

Los Tercios waterfall is usually most visited during the rainy season, when its waterfall is fully appreciable, as well as its unique natural environment. However, the dry season interests travelers and locals who enjoy climbing its geometric rocks.
Tourists are amazed by the history of the formation of this waterfall. Surrounded by popular tales and legends perpetuated over time.
The most widespread story tells that the daughter of a wealthy family fell in love with a local Indian, who, full of rage for not being consented to this relationship, cast a curse on the family and their warehouse. They kept rolls of cloth, turning into stone, ending up in poverty, so the rolls remained piled up and eventually became part of the river.
The other story tells that an enchanted little fish with a golden body created the waterfall and that she is the one who protects it; besides, she is the one who makes the waterfall grow during the winter, and if someone looks at her, then he can lose his mind or even his life.
All these stories are just legends, of course. So far, no studies have been done to determine, or at least give an idea, how to form this fantastic waterfall.
