Photo by ElSalvadorViajar.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Ilamatepec or Cerro Padre<\/strong>, in nahuatl language, received the names of <strong>Volc\u00e1n de los Izalcos<\/strong>, <strong>Volc\u00e1n de Fuego and Volc\u00e1n de Sonsonate<\/strong>, during the colonial period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its geological antecedents date back 2 million years, when there has been a series of varied and irregular eruptions, the last being those of 1904, 1920, and 2005, considered the most destructive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this unfortunate event, <strong>volcanic activity devastated crops and vegetation<\/strong> in the area, including the villages.
